I was reminded recently that I was not just called to do a job; I was called to do the specific work assigned for me to do in the earth. When we pray, “Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in Heaven,” we are submitting our wills to the truths that govern the Kingdom of God. One such truth is that each of our unique purposes was predestined and deposited in us by God, along with a divine time-released passion prior to even our conception. (Jeremiah 1:4-5)
Let us think for a second about time-release medication. These are usually more potent but use a special technology to release small doses of the drugs precisely and continuously into a person’s system over an extended period (conventional delivery methods often result in a burst of medicine inside the body that gradually wears off). This provides people who suffer from chronic pain and other conditions that require constant medication, with the freedom and a willingness to take their pills once or twice a day. With the time-release method, the risk of patients forgetting to take their medication or accidentally taking too much is greatly reduced; so too is the risk of uncomfortable side effects.
If we compare this concept with the time-released passion within us, we can begin to understand the difference between just a job and our work or purpose:
- Your purpose is identified by time-released passion that exposes your special gifts and talents.
- Your purpose has a precise potency that continuously and effectively changes lives by bringing healing, relief, joy, understanding, peace, love and forgiveness in small unforgettable ways over time.
- Your purpose has love at its root and ultimately brings freedom to those who are suffering from sin and its resulting sickness, pain, heartache, ignorance, anger, bitterness and unforgiveness. It stirs a willingness in those that need deliverance to move towards the source of their help, the Lord Jesus Christ our Saviour.
- Your purpose is fundamentally and inextricably tied to who you are; therefore, the risk of failure is greatly reduced and there is a sense of comfort and familiarity that causes others to readily associate “that thing” with you.
As labourers in the Kingdom of God, we are expected to and “must” work “while it is day” (John 9:4) to ensure we contribute to the great harvest for our King. Consequently, we each need to decide what is the most effective way for us to do our work. Ask yourself:
- What have I been consistently passionate about?
- How do I specifically bring joy to others, and what talent or gift am I most remembered for?
- Which display of my love for others moves them towards a desire for God?
- What is the thing that others usually associate with me?
Procrastination and nonchalance are enemies of your time-released purpose. I hear Jesus asking, “If everyone just does a job, who will do the work?”

The Lord discerned there was a woman who needed his word, his work and His time. She was placed on the Lord’s list of things to do. nothing could satisfy his hunger until this need was met., I pray likewise we will discern the person we need to make room for so they can meet Jesus
