4 Sure-Fire Ways to Build Your Momentum to Finish 2020 Strong

We are almost half-way in 2020 and for many the 1st 5 months of the year seem like a decade. Many persons have called it quits for 2020 and come on, the way this Corona mayhem hit the world, it really is tempting to throw in the towel on your goals.

In May, I got the word “Momentum” and as I have been really ruminating on what this mean, I realize while many things are happening, I can choose daily to keep motivated. Of course, some goals have been pushed back (for example: attending a few conferences internationally or even as a speaker many events have been cancelled); but I have set some new goals (for example: finally write the women of the bible devotional or completing a few courses I bought etc.) This is why I want to share with you, 4 sure-fire ways to build your momentum so you can still finish 2020 strong.

Momentum generally means to increase forward motion. Words like energy, drive, boost or progress are synonyms used for momentum. By choosing to build momentum, you are becoming more productive, effective and impactful.

I love the word “progress” because if you choose to take some action or do even just one thing on a daily basis that takes you further along your goals, you’ll feel better about yourself and be able to keep that momentum.

  1. Reset your goals: Maybe you had your 2020 vision board done and set some powerful goals to accomplish but when the pandemic happened, things became uncertain for you. That’s okay! Now is a good time to pause and evaluate to see what can be done and what will have to be pushed back. It’s a great time to simply RESET your goals. Set new goals and keep focused. Remember God still have a good plan for you for 2020, so choose to believe that.

Proverbs: 16:9 – “A man’s heart plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps.”

  1. Stay inspired: What you feed yourself truly can make or break you. If you keep focus on negativity, then you will always feel unmotivated. To keep building your momentum, you have to keep inspiring yourself daily. This means listening sermons and motivational videos on Youtube, subscribe to God-inspiring podcast (like Dairy Of A Jesus Girl-shameless plug), play worship music, network/connect with other goal-getters, journal often and of course, read God’s word.

Philippians 4:8 – “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.”

  1. Have a daily to-achieve list: Every day I write my to-do-list but I prefer to call it “to-achieve-list” because I want to be able to take action on things that are aligned to my goals and not just do lots of things to stay busy. So, get into the habit of writing down tasks you want to accomplish daily (no matter how small it is).

Lamentations 3:22-23 – “The Lord’s loving kindnesses indeed never cease, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.”

  1. Celebrate “small” wins: Rewards have been shown to motivate everyone from kids to older adults. Get into the habit of rewarding yourself as an act as a positive reinforcement, and even affirmation of a job well done.

1 Thessalonians 5:18Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”

Remember, the race is not for the swift but those who endure. Keep focus on what God has called you to do and impact lives for His glory.
