John 20:31 – “but these have been written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name.”
I am a big advocate for believers utilizing their gifts and talents to share their story for the advancement of God’s Kingdom. I know it is my purpose to help kingdom influencers to package their message and live their God-given dreams doing what they love.
We must be bold and confident that sharing the Great Commission is the most impactful and life-changing message to the world. One such way of sharing this message is through the gift of writing.
As an avid writer, I know the influence sharing our message to the world can have and even though we might look and get discouraged that there are already many writers; I want to encourage you today that you are needed to make a difference.
So today I will share some tips for persons who believe they are called to serve as a writer in ministry and in the marketplace:
- Identify ‘why’ you want to build a writing platform: knowing your purpose for everything we do is vital. It will help keep you motivated on the days when you feel like giving up.
- Have a long-term vision: where do you see yourself 1 year or 5 years from now? Do you want to write a book? Do you want to make money blogging? Do you want to be a ghostwriter? Ponder on these things.
- Know your target audience: who has God called you to serve? Your writing won’t be for everybody – so spend time with God seeking Him on your message and how you can find them.
- Speak authentically: share as the Lord leads on your heart. Don’t be afraid to be bold in your pursuit for the things of God. It might not be popular but know that it will benefit who you are called to serve.
- Invest in yourself: be willing to read books and do courses to improve your writing craft. As believers, excellence is a hallmark for everything we do.
Types of writing Platforms to consider: starting your own blog, guest blogging, offer copywriting services, offer editing services, starting a newsletter or magazine, become a freelance writer, become a published author, ghostwriting, write for newspaper columns, journal writing, affiliate blogger, article writer, e-book author, proofreader, writing coach, content writing etc.
I hope this blog is helpful as a Christian writer. You can make an income and have a godly impact using your gift of writing. As a believer who writes you must persist, you must stay focused; you must put our words to paper and share them with others.
I love you and God loves you more!
